Ava - Excerpt
Halliday Family
“What in the world?!” Ava gasped, her eyes latching onto the familiar figure walking confidently across the hotel lobby. Her hotel! Well…her family’s hotel.
Grant was here? In Seattle?! Why in the world was he here? She’d left him back in Houston with a smile and a solemn agreement to avoid Willy Zanika.
So, why was he here?
Before she could breathe, the man in question hesitated, turning to look directly into her stunned, horrified eyes.
He was here! He was in her “home”, so to speak.
Immediately, he changed direction, coming straight for her. Ava broke eye contact and looked around, not sure what to do. Should she hide? No, he’d already seen her. Should she confront him? Maybe she could act like they were just friends?
Yes, that’s what she would do. Clutching her leather bound notebook to her chest, as if it could shield her from the intense potency of his presence, she forced her lips into a smile. Ava was just about to utter a polite greeting when he ripped the notebook out of her hands and pulled her into his arms.
Within moments, she was clinging to him, her mind blank as his kiss echoed through her body. He pulled her closer as the power of his touch, his kiss, caused her knees to wobble.
Ava hadn’t meant to kiss him back! She shouldn’t be kissing him! Nor should she moan and press closer, aligning her curves so they fit more perfectly against the hardness of his body.
In the background, she vaguely heard someone whimper, but Ava was too caught up in reacquainting herself with the deliciousness of Grant’s mouth and all of those yummy muscles that rippled under her fingers as she moved her hands down over his shoulders, then his arms. Oh my, the man knew how to kiss!
When he straightened, someone whimpered again. She didn’t like that noise. It sounded…desperate and she wished that whoever it was would stop.
“Good morning,” he grumbled, low and sexy. He sounded like he’d just made love to her. Or maybe he sounded like they’d just woken up and she’d rolled over into his arms. He sounded as if he were about to make love to her again!
No, correction. That had been the dream she’d woken from this morning. Several hours ago, Ava had been alone in her bed trying to blink away memories of the wildly erotic dream. Hours ago, she’d been alone and aching to feel him touch her exactly like this.
But “this” was real! Not a dream. And “this” was bad! She and Grant weren’t a couple. Not anymore! They hadn’t been a couple for eight, long, painful years! So, why had she kissed him back? She’d kissed Grant like he was her long, lost lover.
Correction, she’d kissed him as if they were currently lovers.
Oh, this was so not good.
